I have finished another ATC for this group of cards so really impressed with my Protection eye.
See it here didi-beadwork.blogspot.com. I hope you all like it and this was one of the quickest as all the pieces fell into place. The background is transfer printed on vilene and stitched through ultrasuede (green).

December ATC under the wire

Hi all - I really wanted to finish before the end of the year and didn't think I'd make it. BUT we left our party early (10pm) last night and when I got home I finished my ATC before midnight. Soooo - I finished on time, just under the wire.

This month's BJP was to represent my trip from PA (the snow) to FL (balmy palm tree) for the winter, using printed map that was laminated, glass beads, Swarovski Cyrstal Sequins, resin snowflake and metal brad.

This was an exciting year and I enjoyed making my ATCs. Now I have to figure out what to make for my 2012 BJP! That is usually the biggest challenge - figuring out what to do.

She is pure Gratitude for being here for another year, for each new day, for being well, being happy, and completing this challenge on time. November Goddess Doll Pin

December is almost half over and I finally finished my November Goddess Doll Pin. She's all about abundance and gratitude. I picked colors which remind me of the Thanksgiving holiday, and naturally, she's smiling as she's the epitome of gratefulness.

Now, to start and finish my December Goddess Doll Pin while still in this month.

What to do for next year? That is the question!

To send in your information, you must copy and paste the list of questions to an e-mail and send it to: beadjournalreg11@gmail.com You will not be notified of the receipt of your information until AFTER December 10th when registration closes. If I have not gotten your information when it closes, do not panic. I will work with you! Please be patient. Carol and I are doing our best. It wont be long now until you receive your invitation to post on the blogs, which is also your confirmation that you are in! Thanks! I hope this clears things up a bit. Tracey

Hi all - my November BJP is done. This Artist Trading Card represents the Fall in November. Check it out!

For all of you who don't have smart phones yet... get one. They are totally awesome. I got an iPhone and am able to get rid of my Day-Timer calendar, lists of various stuff I carry around with me, all those store reward cards (which are now scanned into a free app called Key Chain) and most amazing is I have the Square - a free credit card reader and app (you only pay when you use it - no set up or montly fees). See SquareUp.com for details. I even carry this around with me in case someone buys something off my neck (LOL)! Then it has a flashlight app that can pulse out an SOS (hope I'll never need it). Tons of games when you get bored. I listen to books on tape while I bead. Oh, and the phone feels great in your hand and can be cradled between your shoulder and ear. Can't say enough how much I love this thing. Can you tell?????

Bead Journal Project 2012

Hi everyone! It looks like the 2012 Bead Journal Project is a go! I think it will be a much smaller version, but in my opinion, that is a good thing. It will allow us to be a tighter community, a more supportive community, and will be much easier to closely follow each others accomplishments. I am pleased to announce I will be the "Mama Angel" this year, and will also handle registrations unless someone else steps forward to volunteer. I will be contacting other angels later today to iron out details, so look for more information very soon! I am excited for the new year of the Bead Journal Project. I hope you will join me on this adventure!

October Birthday Goddess Pin

Well - I thought I had written this several days ago and uploaded it, but I can't find my BJP blog anywhere, so I guess it's another case of CRS (Can't Remember Sh-t). I finished my October Goddess Pin around the 27th. As this is my birth month, I choose to use colors I love. My kitchen is green and purple too.

For her hair, I used two different types of yarn. The bugle beads are for the candles on a cake, although the number is wrong, so they are only representative, and they follow a pattern in the fabric. The yellow circle towards the bottom is yellow jade, and although it looks like the bead holding it in place is loose, it is really tight. I rescanned it a couple of times, and couldn't get it the way I wanted it. I suppose it would have been better to photograph her, but I'm used to scanning and a bit lazy, so.......... Next time, I'll photograph it if I don't like the way she scans.

Now, what we really need is a Mama Angel to glue us all together, somebody who has time and energy to keep up with the member blogs and the BJP blog... posting, encouraging, assigning tasks, fixing problems... most of all encouraging. Piece in Newark Museum

Hi all - this is not a BJP issue, but something I am very excited about my bead embroidery - a piece of mine was just accepted into the permanent collection at the Newark Museum in NJ, by the Curator of Decorative Arts. This was actually one of my 1st pieces from 2006, and I love it dearly. I made it to learn more about bead embroidery and it was a project from Robin Atkins' book, Beaded Embellishments - the needle case. But as you can see, I've created my own design and just followed the construction from the project. This was a wonderful project to learn as it taught a hinge and a 2 part construction. I do recommend this book, if you don't already have it.

The funny thing is, my English Budgie, Iggy, just started saying: Karen is the Bead Hearted Babe - so apropos.

I apologize for being late posting for Sept. I honestly did have the project done in Sept. but with being in France I totally forgot to post it. Thanks to those who told me where to find beads in Paris. I did manage to pick up a few things. I do have to say that we are incredibly blessed those of us who live in North America. We have so much at our finger tips and at good prices too!

October ATC done

Hi all - just finished my October piece (see bottom of page). It represents my birthday - I just turned 63 and cannot believe I'm so old! But I don't feel it so that is great.

I have found that in addition to ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) which must be traded, there is a market for ACEOs (Artist Cards Editions and Originals) which are the same size, but can be sold. Apparently there is a big market for these on eBay and other places. Good to know for those of us that always make small things. Check it out - looks like a good market.

Hope we have the BJP again next year - did you all vote yet?

The year 2011 has whizzed by, hasn't it? I'm still working on my August piece, with September and October also started. Even though I'm writing a new book and my beading time is somewhat limited, I'm still planning to finish the year's projects and then stitch them into a wall hanging/quilt.

However, it's time to think ahead to 2012...

Do we want to continue the BJP? If so, do we want to make any changes in how it runs? I just added a poll to the side bar. Please "vote" your interest or lack thereof in continuing. If you have comments, please write them in a post.Thanks!!!

Finally, I've caught up with the months. Here is my September Goddess Doll pin, entitled Rainbow Goddess Pin. I'm posting her here instead of linking you to my blog, as I'm almost ready to leave for the airport for a visit with my sister, Karen L Cohen, who is also a member of the BJP.

She is in all rainbow colors with a big smile as this is a great month for me. My CAT Scan was clear and it's a big relief. I've also included spirals, as one of my favorite shapes and the cornerstone of all life. I'm so grateful to be here with you all and able to share.

I beaded one piece per month up through June. Then I just wanted to see my necklace completed, so I finished all of the other pieces for the rest of the year! I made 12 individual small pieces, each one a different pattern, but using the same colors. Then I added a focal section and end pieces. What do you think?

Hi all - hope you are having a great summer. I'm home from teaching at art camp and finished my July ATC. This month celebrates Camp Med-O-Lark where I go each summer for 6 weeks. The enamel represents my new "Weirdo Enameling" class there with doing eutectic enameling, the heart represents that I love teaching, the stars represent my students who are so wonderful and create just great pieces. This uses vitreous unleaded enamel on copper with fine silver balls and twisted wire and flower wafers on top, glass beads, metal star, Swarovski Crystal star, lampwork heart and dot brads. Anyone up for trading?

Please note that next summer I will be looking for beading counselors (I run the beading, enameling and metals studios), so if you know college students looking for a great summer job, please have them contact me (karen@kcEnamels.com). I'm especially looking for someone to teach wire work for beaders.

I just posted my bead journal project for July. I stitched on paper again this month. I quite enjoy doing that. A fusible backing makes the paper quite sturdy for stitching.
As always, I would appreciate any comments.

Presenting "Star Spangled" in honor of one of my favorite holidays. My husband says it is sort of July 4th in a Mardi Gras sort of way!

Now I can watch the Independence Day fireworks with a clear conscience! What is more, I already know what I want to do for August!

Hot off the needle --- here is June "Deep Blue Sea"... I was trying for a foam-on-a-wave look with those large irregularly placed beads. Didn't quite work but I'm learning each time I put needle to bead!

That almost sounded like something Dr Suess would write :-) After falling into some difficulties that took me away from this project for awhile, I'm caught back up. I've got a post featuring both my April and May BJP buttons on Beading Arts, and my June and July buttons are almost done too!

Please stop by my blog here to see my finished April BJP. I'm going to be making six bird and six butterfly journal pieces which will be attached to gallery wrap canvas.

Each journal quilted/beaded piece is approximately 9" x 11". I've used both Delica and seed beads (#11 and 15's) to bead embroider my pieces.

I've really enjoyed working on these pieces and I look forward to completing all 12, which I will do in my lifetime! I hope!

Hi all - just finished my June ATC which represents Buttons! There are a few reasons for this... I just sold my 1st beaded button at a Button Show; I started beading because of Robin's beaded buttons (thank you Robin); and my family business was plastics which had a large line of buttons. See my ATCs. I have 5 buttons on my piece and 3 fine silver discs that were the start of small buttons I was going to make and decided to put them on my ATC instead.

Also, I'd like to announce that I swapped my 1st ATC. I'm psyched!!!! On my ATC page you will read that one was swapped (it's March) and I have a link to show the ATC I swapped for. It's lovely and came from Roxan O'Brien (one of my Cloisonne students, but she was already creating gorgeous bead embroidered collar necklaces). Thank you Roxan!

If you are interested, check out my buttons. I'm certainly having fun with them. I'm just starting to make enameled buttons and will soon make a few Keum Boo metal buttons.
